Use of Impact Penetrometer to Determine Changes in Soil Compactness After Entracon Sioux EH30 Timber Harvesting

چکیده

Wood harvesting with the use of wheeled harvesters is now common in Polish and Czech forests. While moving forest, wheels these machines affect forest soil extent this impact interesting. The paper presents results measurements changes that occur on operational trails after timber using Entracon Sioux EH30 thinning harvester. were taken fragments three trails, between ruts at a distance 1.0 m off trail. An penetrometer was used to measure penetration resistance, samples collected determine bulk density moisture content, deformations trail measured profile meter. Unit pressures exerted by harvester ground determined. It shown places where pass, even small weight (5.73 tons, 8 wheels) unit <50 kPa, parameters occurred. A statistically significant increase resistance relation control occurred depth up 35 cm, while 5 cm more than 2-fold. There also slight decrease content (up 7.9%) an 8.4%) ruts, rut depths reached 4 cm. As it shown, penetrometer, simple design, which assumed be for measurements, not type research forestry, despite its limitations, can compactness resulting from machine work.

Impact of Land Use Changes on some Soil Micromorphological Features in Rakat Watershed, Eastern Khuzestan Province

The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of land use change (forest and rangelands to agriculture) on some micromorphological indices of soil quality in part of Rakat watershed, southwest of Iran. Accordingly, intact soil samples from 0-15 and 15-30 cm depths were collected from the above-mentioned land uses, and microstructure, type and abundance of voids, redoximorphic featur...

A metagenomic survey of forest soil microbial communities more than a decade after timber harvesting

The scarcity of long-term data on soil microbial communities in the decades following timber harvesting limits current understanding of the ecological problems associated with maintaining the productivity of managed forests. The high complexity of soil communities and the heterogeneity of forest and soil necessitates a comprehensive approach to understand the role of microbial processes in mana...

Tests to Determine the Joint Stiffness and Resisting Moment Capacity of Joints in Timber-Framed Houses

Wind and earthquake disasters in the world often cause billions of dollars of damage to buildings, most of which is to non-engineered buildings-especially homes. Wood-frame homes use connectors which exhibit partial rotational rigidity at the member ends, making analytical solutions difficult. This is due to the lack of information about the complex behavior of the connections used in this type...

Depth-Dependent Mineral Soil CO2 Production Processes: Sensitivity to Harvesting-Induced Changes in Soil Climate

Forest harvesting induces a step change in the climatic variables (temperature and moisture), that control carbon dioxide (CO2) production arising from soil organic matter decomposition within soils. Efforts to examine these vertically complex relationships in situ within soil profiles are lacking. In this study we examined how the climatic controls on CO2 production change within vertically di...
